The convenient SENSEO ® coffee pods and Philips’ unique new SENSEO ® brewing system are perfectly matched to ensure that the best taste and aroma are extracted from the coffee. Discover all SENSEO ® coffee blends at www.senseo.com. To ensure a smooth and full coffee taste, you should keep the following things in mind: ®
Flush before first use
Flush the machine before first use. After the flushing cycle (which only takes approx. 2 minutes), the machine is ready for brewing coffee.
When to descale
Descale the SENSEO® coffee machine when the CALC light lights up, but at least once every 3 months. There is no difference between soft-water and hard-water areas in this respect. Descaling takes about 1 hour. Do not interrupt the descaling process.
Fresh coffee pods
Use the specially developed SENSEO ® coffee pods with your SENSEO® coffee machine for a full, round taste. SENSEO® coffee pods stay fresh longer when you store them in a storage container.

Clean cold water

Use clean cold water every day. If you have not used the coffee machine for one day, you have to flush it with clean cold water before you use it again.
A clean machine
Clean and descale the Philips SENSEO® coffee machine regularly. Remove used coffee pods after brewing. If a used pod has been left in the coffee machine and you have not used the machine for some time, flush the machine before you use it again. For more information on why it is important to descale, how to descale or which descaler to use, visit our website at www.philips.com/descale-senseo.
Fresh milk
To get the best results, we advise you to use cold semi-skimmed milk directly from the fridge. If there is still milk in the milk container after brewing, you can store the milk container in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

  • Children shall not play with the machine.

Caution

  • Always return the machine to a service center authorized by Philips for examination or repair. Do not attempt to repair the machine yourself, otherwise, your warranty becomes invalid.
  • After unpacking the machine, never put your SENSEO®machine on its side. Always keep it in an upright position, also during transport.
  • Never put normal ground coffee or use torn pods in the pod holder, as this causes it to become blocked.
  • Do not use the machine in combination with a transformer, as this could cause hazardous situations.
  • Always put the machine on a flat and stable surface.
  • Do not place the appliance on a hotplate, directly next to a hot oven, heater, or similar source of heat.

Cleaning the machine

Regular cleaning of your SENSEO ® machine is important to ensure that the SENSEO ® coffee always tastes optimal and to optimize the lifetime of the coffee machine.
Cleaning the milk spout and the milk container
For a reliable performance of the milk spout and consistently good frothing results, it is important to clean the milk spout, the milk tube, and the milk container regularly and thoroughly. The milk spout can be disassembled completely, which allows you to remove all milk residues from it.
Note: If you do not plan to froth milk again straight away, rinse the milk spout and milk tube within 30 minutes after use. After the last use of the day, clean the milk spout and milk tube thoroughly. Rinsing after every use

  1. Fill the milk container with clean water.
  2. Place the lid on the milk container. Insert the connector of the milk tube into the milk spout (1). Insert the other end of the milk tube into the milk container through the opening in the lid (2).

Descaling

When to descale
Descale the SENSEO® coffee machine when the CALC light lights up, but at least once every 3 months. There is no difference between soft-water and hard-water areas in this respect. Descaling takes about 1 hour. Do not interrupt the descaling process.
Why descale
Scale builds up inside the machine during use. It is essential to descale the SENSEO coffee machine at least every 3 months. Your reasons to descale:

  • It prolongs the life of your SENSEO® coffee machine
  • It ensures maximum cup volume
  • It ensures maximum coffee temperature
  • The machine produces less sound during brewing
  • It prevents malfunctioning

If the descaling procedure is not performed correctly, scale residue remains behind in the machine. This causes scale to build up more quickly and may cause permanent and irreparable damage to the machine.
Use the correct descaler
Only citric acid-based descalers are suitable for descaling the SENSEO® machine. This type of descaler descales the machine without damaging it. For the correct amount, see under ‘Descaling procedure’ below. Each descaling mixture can be used only once. Use a new descaling mixture each time. We advise you to use the special SENSEO Descaler. Read the instruction leaflet in the package. For more information on why it is important to descale, how to descale or which descaler to use, visit our website at www.philips.com/descale-senseo.
Descaling procedure
The CALC button lights up to indicate you have to descale your machine. The descaling procedure consists of a descaling cycle and 3 flushing cycles with fresh water to ensure all descaler residue is removed from the machine. Do not interrupt the descaling cycle and do not switch off the machine before you have performed the flushing cycles. The whole procedure takes approximately 60 minutes.
Note: Place the milk spout in the machine to ensure proper descaling.

  1. Place the 1-cup pod holder with a used coffee pod or the thin descaling filter in the coffee machine. The used coffee and the thin descaling filter pod serve as a filter and prevent the sieve in the pod holder from getting clogged with scale.
  2. Close the lid and make sure it is properly locked.PHILIPS Senseo HD6574, HD6570 Latte Duo Plus Instruction Manual (37)
  3. Pour half a bottle of descaling liquid into the water reservoir and fill it up with fresh tap water.
  4. Tilt the water reservoir and place the bottom back onto the machine (1).PHILIPS Senseo HD6574, HD6570 Latte Duo Plus Instruction Manual (38) Then press the top of the water reservoir towards the machine (2).
