Ik heb in totaal zes goede kleine soundbars gevonden die goede keuzes zijn, afhankelijk van je voorkeuren. Om snel een overzicht te geven van de keuzes vind je hieronder eerst een vergelijktabel waarin de belangrijkste verschillen duidelijk worden. Daarna ga ik per soundbar verder op alle eigenschappen.

1. Bose Solo 5: kleinste soundbar (mini) met goed geluid (2.0 channel)
De Bose Solo 5 is de kleinste soundbar van Bose, en een populaire keuze vanwege het stevige geluid bij het kleine formaat. De afmeting van de soundbar is 54.8 cm breedte, 7 cm hoogte, en 8.6 cm diepte.
Met deze afmetingen past deze soundbar in veel gevallen tussen de poten van een TV, zonder dat deze voor het scherm valt. Ook zal deze soundbar daarmee in veel gevallen ook op een plank van een TV-kast passen. Ook kun je deze soundbar aan de muur bevestigen.
De Bose Solo 5 is een stereo (2.0 channel) soundbar. Omdat de speakers in deze soundbar flink krachtiger zijn dan die van de gemiddelde TV, kan deze soundbar het geluid toch flink verbeteren.
Er zitten in deze soundbar twee woofers ingebouwd, dus één per kanaal. Ondanks het ontbreken van een midden-kanaal, is het met de Bose Solo 5 mogelijk om het stemgeluid duidelijker hoorbaar te maken, met de ‘dialoogmodus’. Daardoor krijgen tonen van stemmen meer volume, en zijn deze duidelijker te verstaan. Voornamelijk bij actiescènes, of bij achtergrondmuziek zal dit een duidelijk verschil maken.
Je kunt naar deze soundbar audio streamen over bluetooth. Je zult dan simpelweg op je smartphone of tablet verbinding maken met de soundbar onder de bluetooth-instellingen. Eenmaal verbonden, zal de soundbar alle audio van het verbonden apparaat afspelen. Zo kun je bijvoorbeeld op je smartphone muziek van Spotify kiezen, en de Bose Solo 5 speelt dit af. Het bluetooth-bereik is zo’n 10 meter.
De Bose Solo 5 heeft géén Wi-Fi ondersteuning, en dus ook geen smart-functies zoals voice control.De soundbar zul je dus moeten bedienen met de meegeleverde afstandsbediening.
Om deze soundbar aan te sluiten kun je gebruik maken van de meegeleverdecoax-kabel. Een andere optie is om de soundbar aan te sluiten met een optische kabel, of met een AUX audiokabel op de 3.5 mm jack ingang. 2. Philips TAPB400/10: kleinste smart soundbar (2.0 channel)
De Philips TAPB400/10 is een interessante kleine soundbar vanwege de lage prijs, en de goede eigenschappen. Deze soundbar is iets groter dan de Bose Solo 5, maar is nog steeds een kleine soundbar. De breedte is 58 cm, de hoogt 6.75 cm, en de diepte 10.7 cm.
Daarmee is ook deze soundbar gemakkelijk te plaatsen als daar beperkte ruimte voor is. Ook deze soundbar is aan de muur te plaatsen. De benodigde muurbeugel wordt meegeleverd.
Net als de Bose Solo 5, is dit een 2.0 channel soundbar. De soundbar bevat twee full-range woofers met een diameter van 2.25 inch. Het totale vermogen van de soundbar is 30 Watt.
Om draadloos te verbinden met de soundbar kun je gebruik maken van bluetooth. Deze soundbar heeft bluetooth 4.2, en heeft een bluetooth-bereik van zo’n 10 meter.
Deze soundbar van Philips beschikt niet over Wi-Fi, maar is toch te besturen met spraakbesturing. 3. JBL Bar Studio: kleine, dunne soundbar (2.0 channel)
De JBL Bar Studio is de kleinste soundbar van JBL. De Bar Studio is iets breder dan de twee eerder genoemde opties, namelijk 61.4 cm. Wel is deze soundbar platter, en namelijk slechts 5.8 cm hoog. De diepte is 8.6 cm.
Ook dit is een simpele stereo soundbar (2.0 channel). Een verschil is dat deze soundbar ook tweeters bevat. Per audiokanaal heeft deze soundbar namelijk één 2 inch woofer, en één 1.5 inch tweeter. Woofers kunnen midden tot lage tonen weergeven, terwijl tweeters juist gespecialiseerd zijn in een nauwkeurige weergave van hoge tonen. Het opgegeven frequentiebereik van deze soundbar is60 Hz tot 20 kHz, en de soundbar heeft een maximaal vermogen van 30 Watt.
Ook deze soundbar beschikt overbluetooth. Zo kun je dus ook met deze soundbar verbinden met je smartphone of tablet. Eenmaal verbonden over bluetooth, speelt de Bar Studio het geluid van je smartphone of tablet af, en kun je daarop dus je muziek kiezen. De soundbar heeft geen Wi-Fi, en daarom ook geen spraakbesturing.
Deze soundbar heeft veel verschillende aansluitmogelijkheden. Zo kun je deze soundbar verbinden met je TV over HDMI, met optische kabel (Toslink) of met een AUX kabel. Ook zou je de AUX-aansluiting kunnen gebruiken om hier een tweede apparaat op aan te sluiten, zoals een CD-speler. Ook heeft deze soundbar een USB-ingang. 4. Sony HT-SF200: compacte soundbar met built-in sub (2.1 ch)
De Sony HT-SF200 is op dit moment de kleinste losse soundbar van Sony. Deze is met een afmeting van 58 centimeter breedte, 6.4 cm hoogte, en 9.5 cm diepte dan ook zeer compact. Door de beperkte afmetingen past deze soundbar bij veel TV’s tussen de poten, en is deze laag genoeg om niet voor het scherm te vallen.
Wil je een kleine soundbar die toch een goed basgeluid heeft? Dan is de Sony HT-SF200 een goede optie. Deze heeft namelijk een ingebouwde subwoofer, die het subwoofer-kanaal afspeelt. De ingebouwde subwoofer is down-firing, ofwel: omlaag gericht.
Met een mid-range woofer voor zowel het linker en rechter kanaal, is dit dus 2.1 channel soundbar. De ingebouwde subwoofer bij een soundbar van dit formaat, maakt dit een unieke keuze. De ingebouwde speakers van deze soundbar maken dit samen een 80 Watt geluidssysteem.
Ook deze soundbar beschikt over bluetooth. Zo kun je draadloos verbinden met een smartphone of tablet om muziek af te spelen naar de soundbar. Maar daarnaast is het mogelijk om de soundbar via bluetooth met de TV te verbinden.

5. Sonos Playbase: platte soundbar ofwel soundplate (3.0 ch)
De Sonos Playbase is een zogenaamde soundplate, namelijk een soundbar waar je een TV op kunt plaatsen. Met een dikte van 5.8 cm is dit ook een zeer dunne soundbar, en past deze bij sommige TV’s met twee poten ook nog onder het scherm. Behalve dat dit een dunne soundbar is, is deze met een breedte van 72 cm nog redelijk smal. De diepte is 38 centimeter.
TV’s met één grote voet in het midden zijn op de Playbase te plaatsen. De Playbase kan maximaal een TV met een gewicht van 35 kilogram aan, en kan daarmee het gewicht van bijna elke TV dragen.
Omdat dit een dunne, platte soundbar is, is er gekozen voor veel speakers met een kleine diameter. Zo zitten er in de Playbase in totaal wel 10 ingebouwde speakers; 6 mid-range speakers, drie tweeters, en één woofer. Daarmee is de Playbase is een 3.0-kanaals geluidssysteem, en heeft deze per kanaal twee mid-range speakers en één tweeter tot zijn beschikking.

6. Sonos Beam: compacte smart soundbar (3.0 channel)
De Beam is een smart soundbar van Sonos, met een compact formaat. Deze soundbar heeft een breedte van 65.1 cm, hoogte van 6.85 cm, en een diepte van 10 centimeter.
De Sonos Beam is een 3.0 channel speaker, en bevat 4 mid-range woofers en één tweeter. De twee middelste speakers woofers en de tweeter zijn recht naar voren gericht, en zorgen samen voor het midden-kanaal. Voor het linker en rechter kanaal is er een woofer die schuin naar buiten gericht is.
Ook de Sonos Beam is draadloos te bedienen over Wi-Fi. Met onder andere een smartphone op hetzelfde Wi-Fi netwerk, kun je via de Sonos app muziek kiezen. Zo kun je dit draadloos afspelen naar de Beam. De Beam is zowel draadloos, als bedraad met Ethernetkabel op je netwerk aan te sluiten.
In tegenstelling tot de Playbase, heeft de Sonos Beam wél een ingebouwde microfoon, en is deze daarom ook te bedienen met voice control. De beschikbare voice assistant hiervoor is Google Assistant.
